The Colorado Department of Education sent a notice to Adams School District 14 requiring it to begin a reorganization process. It will involve this school district plus Mapleton Public Schools, Adams 12 Five Star Schools and 27J Schools.
All of those districts passed resolutions in opposition to the state-ordered reorganization in June, and a district statement said it told the state board of education that efforts to reorganize Adams 14 “will fail.”
The Oct. 18 notice from the education commissioner was a requirement. The statement said the four districts “will have to allocate time, resources and finances from its students and redirect them toward reorganization.”
In March, the state ordered Adams 14 to begin the process of reorganizing, citing a continuous pattern of low test scores. A companion suggestion to close Adams City High School is no longer on the table.
The district statement said the state’s recent notice has no impact on jobs of staff members, nor does it change “Adams 14’s commitment to providing a stable and secure learning environment for all of our students.”
