My father has been battling stage four prostate cancer for a long time, which unfortunately has metastasized to his lungs. Because of this, he is extremely high risk for COVID-19. To protect him, he has been isolated for most of 2020, which has taken a toll on both his physical and mental health. He is so fearful of getting sick that he’s scared to play with his grandson. It absolutely breaks my heart to see him like this.
How do I explain to my 6-year-old son that he cannot hug his Papa? My father’s quality of life has been destroyed because of COVID-19, and his loved ones have been forced to sit idly by. However, I believe that if he were able to get vaccinated, his quality of life would greatly improve. We would be able to interact with him normally again; my son would be able to play with him again.
I urge our members of Congress to do everything in their power to support the development of a vaccine for COVID-19. The American pharmaceutical industry is working diligently on developing vaccines and treatments, and they’re making significant progress toward completion, development and distribution.
I know there are hundreds of thousands of others with similar stories to my own, whose loved ones’ quality of life has been hampered due to COVID-19. I refuse to sit idly by; I feel energized by our pharmaceutical industry’s work on a vaccine, and I encourage Colorado’s representatives in Congress to support their work.
