Letter to the editor: We need real solutions

We need real solutions

The United States, more than any other country, has reduced our carbon emissions. To bolster this, Congress is working on legislation called the Trillion Trees Act, which calls for increasing the number of trees in the U.S. to help sequester carbon dioxide. They are working to incentivize more investment in clean energy research to include nuclear energy and natural gas. Also, work is being done on approaches that would lower tax rates for companies that export clean energy technology in which the U.S. is a leader.

Rather than penalize our citizens with carbon taxes driven by fear we should be more responsible. The Green New Deal would move our country away from free markets, ensuring that half the economy would pass through the government. It is estimated to cost trillions of dollars and would harm our economy and national security. Electricity prices would skyrocket.

Let’s not listen to fearmongers but rather be innovative and practical in our approach to our climate. Greta Thunberg and her ilk should be spending their time in China and India.
